After such a great weekend in Porto, the result feels a little disappointing: 4th place with little difference with nr. 3.
Nevertheless a good experience practicing to perform in exhausting heat (the conditions at the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade will be similar if not even more difficult).
Huge thanks to the organisers for a successful tournament!
Just arrived at the venue of the #GaiaOpen: pick-up from the station, free wifi in the hall, a goodiebag (whuut?). This is so well-organised! Dan grades start around 13.00. Will try to get a Periscope livestream going on my twitter @matthotkd!
It's been a busy couple of days! With the German Open Poomsae in Dresden going on last weekend and my last exam of the year at King's College London only yesterday. In between I've spent my days in the gym, because as we speak I am boarding a flight to Porto to compete in the Associação Taekwondo de Gaia Championships coming weekend! #lovelife
Today I did a test run on the course of #GuysUrbanChallenge, including the 29-floor climb of Guy's Tower. On the 9-10th of October this event will take place to Support Guy's and St Thomas' new Cancer Centre, a great cause. Take a look at www.guysurbanchallenge.co.uk and get involved!
JAWOHL! 1st place in the Berlin Open Poomsae!
Huge thanks to King's Sport (Big Green Gorilla - Edward Young PT in particular) for getting me in shape. Ready to continue training for the German Open, 23.05.2015.
A beautiful location to deliver my first energizer of the year: The Athlete of the Year Awards in Gemeente de Ronde Venen! Congratulations to all the nominees, hope to have given you a boost for the year to come!
Yesterday I returned to London from a fruitful training weekend with the National Team. The good news: I am going to represent the Netherlands at the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade(광주하계유니버시아드)!
Thanks go out to the coach and management for giving me this opportunity and to the whole team for their support. I'll make #TeamNL proud!
It's been a while but I did some sparring this weekend: secured a silver medal for KCL Taekwondo at the Imperial Open!
1st round: 10-5 vs LSE
Semi: 9-6 vs Uni of Surrey
Final: lost against Imperial.
This is an axe kick from the semi-final. King's Sport #joinourteam
The 9th World Poomsae Championships have kicked off in Mexico! Today you can stream the Male -30 finals, which promise to be spectacular. Good luck to my man Romario Soekandar who is representing the Netherlands!
This morning I started my incredible journey to Korea. Part 1 (AMS-BRU) entailed a minor hiccup (read: bloody delay), so I had to sprint through security and everything. Anyhow, I just caught my flight on the second. Part 2, BRU-ABU, let's go!
Currently finding myself in the woods around Veldhoven for the first training weekend with the Dutch National Poomsae Team. Reminded me of that 9km mud race I did two weeks ago, the Diemercross. Look at that smirky smile!

Made it into the semifinal at the German Open today. But even this magic potion from Korea couldn't save me from the killers from Spain and the current world champion (GER). But I'm definitely on my way up!
